What is DSD?

Digital Smile Design (DSD)It is a planning method that digitally simulates the ideal form, length and position of teeth with photographs/videos, intraoral scans and facial proportions. The aim is to strengthen patient-physician communication predictable and personalized to achieve results.

Advantages

  • Visualization: Seeing the possible outcome on a screen or mock-up before treatment
  • Communication: Clarification of expectation-achievement alignment
  • Planning: Sequencing of gum, veneer/crone, orthodontics, implant steps
  • Time management: Optimizing the laboratory and session plan

DSD steps in Dent Balance

  1. Photo/video shootings and facial analysis
  2. Digital impression (intraoral scan) and 2D/3D draft
  3. Mock-up (intraoral temporary rehearsal)
  4. Transition to treatment after approval (gingival arrangement → whitening → veneers/crons → orthodontics/implants)

SSS

  • Is mock-up mandatory? Recommended; valuable for patient consent and communication.
  • How to achieve a natural look? Anatomical forms suitable for face-lip-gum ratios are targeted.
  • Is DSD a stand-alone treatment? No; it is a planning tool, it directs the actions to be taken.
