What is smile design?
Smile design is a comprehensive, personalised process that combines several aesthetic dentistry treatments to create a natural, harmonious smile. We consider not only the teeth but also the gums, lip shape, facial lines and your expressions.

With Digital Smile Design we plan your new smile on screen and, where suitable, show a mock-up before treatment — so you can see and approve the result in advance. Every plan is individual, with written pricing and long-term follow-up.
What is assessed during smile design?
Smile design is not only about the colour of the teeth. Tooth proportions, the midline, gum levels, lip movement, how much of the teeth show when you smile and facial symmetry are all considered together. Preserving speech and chewing function matters as much as appearance, so gum health, decay and the way the teeth meet are examined before planning begins.
What is a mock-up?
After digital planning, a temporary material can be placed over the teeth in suitable cases to preview the proposed shape. This step lets you see and feel how the plan looks in your own mouth. Your feedback on the mock-up can then be reflected in the plan before any definitive restorations are made.
Stages and follow-up
Smile design is a multi-stage process that includes examination, records, planning, preview and treatment. The number of appointments and the overall timeline depend on the methods chosen. Regular check-ups afterwards help monitor gum health and the condition of the restorations.

Frequently asked questions
Do teeth have to be reduced for smile design?
It depends on the method. Composite work and some veneer options aim for minimal preparation, whereas cases requiring crowns involve more tooth preparation.
How many appointments are needed?
This varies with the scope of treatment. Whitening and small composite corrections are quick, while plans involving veneers, crowns or orthodontics take longer.
Will the result look natural?
The aim is a result in harmony with your facial features and remaining teeth. Colour, shape and surface texture are planned using natural teeth as the reference.
Is there an age limit?
Dental and facial growth should be complete. In younger patients an orthodontic assessment is usually the first step.
Might I need orthodontic treatment first?
If the teeth are noticeably misaligned, orthodontic correction before restorative work can allow a more conservative result. This is decided at examination.
