Sensitivity after teeth whitening
Temporary sensitivity to hot and cold can occur after teeth whitening and usually settles within a short time. Desensitising toothpaste or measures advised by your dentist can help. Before treatment, gum recession, worn enamel surfaces and the margins of existing fillings are assessed, as these findings can influence how sensitive the teeth are afterwards.
How long do the results last?
The shade achieved varies between individuals and with dietary habits. Coffee, tea, red wine and smoking can cause staining to return over time. Regular brushing, professional cleaning and, where appropriate, a top-up at intervals may be planned. No individual guarantee about duration can be given.
Preparation beforehand
An examination is carried out before whitening; decay, fractures or gum problems are treated first. Removing calculus and surface stains can already improve appearance. Existing fillings and crowns do not change colour, so your plan takes into account whether these restorations may need to be replaced afterwards.

Who is teeth whitening not suitable for?
Active decay, advanced gum disease or significant enamel loss may mean treatment is postponed. Pregnancy and breastfeeding require individual assessment.
Do crowns and fillings whiten too?
No. Whitening affects natural tooth structure only. If a colour mismatch results, replacing those restorations may be discussed.
Are over-the-counter products safe?
Products used without dental assessment can irritate the gums or give unpredictable results. Treatment under clinical supervision is recommended.
How often can it be repeated?
The interval is determined individually according to the current shade. Very frequent use should be avoided and follow-up is advised.
Is the procedure uncomfortable?
